Standards constitute one of the best means for supporting the players in their concern for reliability of the installations and reduction of the environmental impact of their activities. Faced with the new stakes of safety of procurements, energy independence, reduction in emissions of greenhouse gases and of liberalisation of the energy markets, standardisation is developing in response to the profound changes experienced by this sector.

Thus, in order to aid enterprises in their energy control approaches, the ISO 50001 standard “Energy management systems” was published in June 2011. From an initial energy audit, the organization complies with its set energy targets and establishes a plan for energy metering, allowing for short-term energy savings and cost reduction. Furthermore, to adopt the ISO 29001 standard is an asset with a veritable added value for the suppliers of products and services within the petroleum and gas industry.
